Boy was this one unexpected. I've adopted the philosophy of taking my camera everywhere, and this is why! While on our trip to Boston, some friends of ours took us to a great place called the B-Side Lounge in Cambridge. It was basically just another stop on our bar-hopping tour, but it was definitely a highlight. I had a "Guiness Float" which was, er... interesting! At any rate, while we're there the "Tuesday" band struck up - the Frank Morey band. I was instantly hooked. Frank's got the world-weary voice of the great blues singers without sounding like that's what he's going for. The unusual (awesome) percussion from Scott Pittman finishes off the eclectic Tom Waittsian vibe perfectly, with all sorts of unsual percussion elements, including a small xylaphone if memory serves me right.Knowing I was seeing something special, I ran out to the car to get my camera. The restaurant was extremely dark, in fact much darker than it appears in these photos. Pushing up to a higher ISO allowed me to get the shutter speeds I needed, and I think the resulting effect fits the night well.Frank Morey's site: http://www.frankmorey.comBuy their records at Delmark: http://www.delmark.com Scott Pittman also has a great personal site that you can check out: http://www.scottmatthewpittman.com
